What's Up in #GENeva this week?

5 November - 11 November 2018

Geneva Peace Week 2018

Geneva Peace Week, taking place this year from 5 to 9 November, is a collective action initiative facilitated by the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG), the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, and the Geneva Peacebuilding Platform in collaboration with the Swiss Confederation. By synchronizing meetings and events on different topics related to the promotion of peace during one week, Geneva Peace Week maximizes synergies between organizations in Geneva, focused on the cross-cutting nature of peace. Piloted in 2014, Geneva Peace Week has grown from a small handful of 10 events with 9 event organizers and approximately 500 participants to 50 events with 100 event organizers and 5'000 participants in 2017.

Geneva Peace Week underlines that each and every person, actor and institution has a role to play in building peace and resolving conflict. It also highlights that peace promotion occurs in many different contexts and cuts across disciplines and sectors. Various events during the week will target environmental issues. Among these:

Chemicals and Waste, International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict & more on the Agenda

A chemicals and Waste briefing, held within the framework of the Geneva Environmnet Network is taking place Monday 5 November, from 2 to 4 pm.
