Geneva Prepares for the UN Environment Assembly

The United Nations Environment Assembly, the world’s highest-level decision-making body on the environment, will convene for its fourth session (UNEA-4) from 11-15 March 2019, in Nairobi, Kenya.

UNEA-4 will feature a number of high-level events and negotiate resolutions on areas of expertise of International Geneva. The theme for this session is “Innovative solutions for environmental challenges and sustainable consumption and production” covers policies, financing, technologies, partnerships and multistakeholder processes, key both to solving many environmental challenges, as well as to accelerating sustainable development more generally.

On the occasion of the visit of the President of the UN Environment Assembly, H.E. Siim KIISLER, Minister of Environment of Estonia to Geneva, a briefing in preparation of this important meeting, organized by the Geneva Environment Network, will take place at the International Environment House II, Monday 4 February, 2pm. Espoo Convention: Countries to focus on advancing cross-border environmental assessment

UNECE’s Espoo Convention helps to bring together countries and all stakeholders to prevent environmental damage before it occurs.

This week’s intermediary session of the Meeting of the Parties to the Espoo Convention and its Protocol on Strategic Environmental Assessment will gather around 200 participants from some 50 countries, including Ministers and Vice-Ministers, together with intergovernmental and governmental organizations representing the environment and also energy sectors.

Environment @ the Humanitarian Networks and Partnerships Week

The fifth Humanitarian Networks and Partnerships Week (HNPW) is being held at the International Conference Centre Geneva (CICG), from 4-8 February 2019.

This week-long event brings together experts in crisis preparedness and response from a diversity of organizations (including Member States, UN agencies, NGOs, civil protection, the private sector or academia) and countries in a common space where discussions focus on identifying solutions to humanitarian challenges. Various sessions will target environmental issues (see below).
