What's Up in #GENeva this week?

21 October - 27 October 2019

World Resources Forum Convenes in Geneva

The World Resources Forum (WRF) 2019 will be held from 23 – 24 October 2019 at the Centre International de Conferences (CICG) in Geneva. WRF 2019 will be centered on the theme of ‘Making Natural Resource Governance Fit for the 21st Century’. This topic was chosen to reinforce the dialogue that has started to gain international traction on resources and sustainable consumption and production.

UN Environment Programme’s International Resource Panel is working on this topic as well and has reported trends and findings to the 2019 United Nations Environment Assembly, held in Nairobi in March 2019. The Ministerial Declaration of the 2019 United Nations Environment Assembly has reaffirmed that poverty eradication, promoting sustainable patterns of consumption and production and protecting the natural resource base of economic and social development are the essential requirements for sustainable development. Ministers have expressed their determination to improve national resource management strategies with an integrated full lifecycle approach to achieve resource-efficient and low-carbon economies. #WRF2019

International Lead Poisoning Prevention Week

The International lead poisoning prevention week of action is taking place from 20 to 26 October 2019. In 2017 lead exposure accounted for 1.06 million deaths and 24.4 million years lost to disability and death due to long-term health effects, with the highest burden in developing regions. #BanLeadPaint #ILPPW2019

Researchathon

The UN Special Rapporteur on human rights and the environment is preparing a report for the Human Rights Council on good practices in implementing the right to a safe, clean, healthy and sustainable environment. He needs your help to include in the report at least one good practice from each of the 150+ nations where this right enjoys some form of legal recognition at the national level.
