A briefing ahead of the 25th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC COP25), to be held in Madrid, Spain, from 2-13 December 2019, under the Presidency of the Government of Chile, will take place on Tuesday 12 November, at 9.30 am at the Internaitional Environment House.
This event, organized within the framework of the Geneva Environment Network, will have a particular focus on science, nature-based solutions, the just transition and climate migration and displacement topics to be addressed at COP25. #COP25 #ClimateAction
Last May, the Conference of the Parties to the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal (187 governments) created a new "Partnership on Plastic Waste".
The aim of this new Partnership, to be launched in Geneva this week, is to mobilize the resources and expertise of governments, industry, intergovernmental organisations, academia and civil society to promote the environmentally sound management of plastic waste at the global, regional and national levels and to prevent and minimize its generation. #PlasticWasteAmendment
The twenty-fifth session of the UNECE Committee on Environmental Policy (CEP) is taking place in Geneva from 13 to 15 November. Established in 1994, CEP is the overall governing body of UNECE environmental activities. Its main aim is to assess countries' efforts to reduce their overall pollution burden and manage their natural resources, to integrate environmental and socioeconomic policies, to strengthen cooperation with the international community, to harmonize environmental conditions and policies throughout the region and to stimulate greater involvement of the public and environmental discussions and decision-making. #CommitteeonEnvironmentalPolicy
Eleven internationally recognised filmmakers have joined forces to raise awareness on the most pressing environmental issues and the effects of climate change by contributing to a unique film - Interdependence - composed by eleven short-movies, highlighting the urgent need to reduce environmental damage and to preserve our natural resources. The Geneva Premiere of Interdependence will take place Wednesday 13 November at Maison de la Paix. #Interdependence
On 14-15 November 2019, UN Environment and UNOPS are organizing a new Workshop on Inclusive Infrastructure under the chapeau of the Sustainable Infrastructure Partnership (SIP), which UN Environment established in 2018 as a platform to promote and support integrated approaches to sustainable infrastructure planning and development. #SustainableInfrastructure
