Org. Setting and Reporting
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. The overall objective of the UNEP's Economy Division is to encourage decision makers in government, local authorities and industry to develop and adopt policies, strategies and practices and technologies that promote sustainable patterns of consumption and production, make efficient use of natural resources, ensure safe management of chemicals and contribute to making trade and environment policies mutually supportive. It promotes the development, use and transfer of policies, technologies, economic instruments, managerial practices and other tools that assist in environmentally sound decision making and the building of corresponding activities (http://www.unep.fr/). The position is located in the Economy Division, Economics and Trade Branch at the Geneva duty station. Under the direct supervision of the Head, Trade, Policy and Planning Unit and overall supervision of the Chief of the Branch, the incumbent will perform the following duties:
• Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of assigned programmes/projects; monitors and analyzes programme/project development and implementation; reviews relevant documents and reports; identifies problems and issues to be addressed and proposes corrective actions; liaises with relevant parties; identifies and tracks follow-up actions.
• Performs consulting assignments, in collaboration with the client, by planning facilitating workshops, through other interactive sessions and assisting in developing the action plan the client will use to manage the change.
• Researches, analyzes and presents information gathered from diverse sources.
• Assists in policy development, review and analysis of issues and trends, preparation of impact evaluation or equivalent studies.
• Undertakes survey initiatives; reviews, analyzes and interprets responses, identifies problems or issues and prepares conclusions.
• Prepares various written outputs, like draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications.
• Provides substantive support to consultative and other meetings, conferences to include proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, preparation of documents and presentations.
• Undertakes outreach activities; conducts training workshops, seminars and makes presentations on assigned topics and activities.
• Participates in lead field missions, including provision of guidance to external consultants, government officials and other parties and drafting mission summaries.
• Contributes to fundraising and coordinates activities related to budget and funding programme/project preparation and submissions, progress reports, financial statements and prepares related documents and reports
• Performs other duties as required.

Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in economics, programme management or related fields is required. Training with focus on trade and environment is an added advantage. A first-level university degree in combination with additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
At least 5 years of experience required out of which at least two years of work experience with a focus on issues related to trade and environment. Work experience at both the national and the intergovernmental level is required. This experience should involve project management and support to programme management, fundraising, research and drafting of reports, design and coordination of technical assistance and capacity building projects, representation at international fora, and organization and implementation of training workshops for governments and other stakeholder groups. Skills of quantitative and policy analysis is desirable.
English and French are the working knowledge of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.
Evaluation of qualified candidates for this position may include substantive assessment which may be followed by a competency-based interview.
